EIN PROJEKT ÜBER DEN NAHOSTKONFLIKT
The Middle East conflict has far-reaching social repercussions that are also being felt in Germany, particularly among young people. In Germany, a multicultural country with a diverse population, the conflict often leads to tensions and conflicts within society. Young people who grow up in a multicultural environment are often directly or indirectly affected by these tensions.
On the one hand, the Middle East conflict influences the social climate and interpersonal relationships. Discourses about the conflict, especially in social media, can lead to misunderstandings and prejudices that affect young people's everyday lives. Discussions and positioning in social networks can help to reinforce stereotypical views and prejudices. This dynamic can lead to tensions and conflicts between young people from different backgrounds in schools and in their free time.
Secondly, the conflict can also have an impact on young people's sense of security and integration. Young people from Arab or Jewish families in particular may feel pressurised by the public debate and media coverage of the conflict. They may experience an increased perception of discrimination or prejudice, which can have a negative impact on their well-being and social integration.
In addition, the family and cultural backgrounds of young people can also lead to increased emotional stress. Young people whose families have a strong connection to the Middle East conflict can feel particularly affected and have difficulties asserting their identity in a social context characterised by conflict and tension.
With this project, we offer students the opportunity to engage with the Middle East conflict in an intensive and differentiated way. The aim of our project is to create an open and respectful space for discussion in which different perspectives can be familiarised with and understood.
The Middle East conflict is a multi-layered and historically complex topic that is often simplified or presented in a one-sided way in media coverage. Our project aims to enable participants to look at this conflict from different perspectives and form an informed opinion.
During the interactive sessions, we provide a safe learning environment that allows participants to ask their own questions, actively participate in discussions and share their perspectives with others. We encourage critical reflection and intercultural dialogue through targeted discussion and the exchange of experiences and opinions.
The project supports the development of important skills such as analytical thinking, empathy, tolerance and intercultural sensitivity. By actively participating in the project days, learners are encouraged to take responsibility for dialogue and understanding in our increasingly globalised world
Peer to peer
Our peer approach allows us to meet learners at eye level, drawing on similar experiences, needs or challenges to create a safe space of mutual understanding.
Preventive & Interventive
We work preventively and interventively. Thus, we can identify problems at an early stage and prevent them before they occur, but also address existing challenges effectively and sustainably.
Value-neutral
We encourage open discussion and constructive dialogue where different opinions and perspectives are respected. We want to encourage young people to think critically and develop their own convictions by exploring different positions and forming their own opinions.
SUSTAINABLE
Reviews
The young people were enthusiastic about the workshops and were able to engage very well with the topics addressed. Mr Yussufi from Way Of X managed to find great access to the participants in no time at all. Under his moderation, the guys were able to get involved in very personal topics and discuss and reflect on their respective points of view. We would be very happy to organise more workshops with Way Of X. Quote from the participants: "Can't Mr Yussufi just come to us every day!" Many thanks for that!
Mr Yussufi and his team spent a week visiting a total of 4 classes at a special school in the Rhein-Sieg district and, as Caesar said: came, saw and won.
The three speakers were well prepared, competent and reliable, which made the collaboration in advance, during the implementation and also in the follow-up a real pleasure. The authentic, charismatic and open manner of all three speakers engaged both the pupils and the teachers and kept everyone "on the ball". Despite complex and sensitive topics, the team knew how to inject just the right amount of humour so that the lightness was not lost despite the sometimes conflicting opinions and heated discussions. The visit by Mr Yussufi and his team was a very valuable and beneficial experience for the participating classes, which will certainly have a lasting effect on the pupils. The school is already looking forward to a repeat collaboration and will definitely endeavour to do so.
"Under the Olive Tree" was a great introduction to the topic of the Middle East conflict. In 90 minutes, Selin, Alex and Yassin managed to make a topic with potential for conflict tangible with a lot of openness, humour and interaction and to create a space in which discussions could take place and perspectives and opinions could be changed. The feedback from the classes was that it was good that the topic could be addressed at school. Thanks to all three of you!
The Way of X team visited us today and spent the whole morning with my ninth grade class. They aroused the interest of the not always easy pupils right from the start and kept their motivation high with varied tasks and games. Many of the often rather disinterested young people in the class discussed and defended their points of view in a way that I had never experienced before. The whole class had great fun today and I am sure that they now think a little differently about some things or at least give them more thought than before. Thank you for this workshop, you are great, keep up the good work! An absolute recommendation!
The Way of X workshops hit the students like a bomb and kept them busy for weeks to come. A successful mix of exchanging opinions, having fun and imparting values on controversial topics that are usually given a wide berth is the reason for their success with the young people. More of this.
Way of X - Rise Above Hate - really appealed to the young people at our school and made them think about themselves and the world. With their sense of humour and emphatic acting, they authentically hit the right buttons for the young people to take a critical look at patriarchal gender roles. The team has created an open atmosphere at eye level - the ideal breeding ground for constructive dialogue. We thank you for your commitment and hope to see you again soon.
The Way of X team managed to approach the students very well. The class was able to get involved very well and there was a remarkable exchange between the students, which was professionally guided by Mr Yussufi. Thank you very much! We look forward to future projects at our school
The Way of X team uses language that is appropriate for young people and does not raise its finger to young people, inviting them to deal intensively with topics such as honour, identity and self-determination: Honour, identity, homophobia and self-determination. The varied methods such as positioning games, discussions and theatre pedagogical approaches encourage the pupils to reflect and discuss respectfully. With their preventive and effective concept and well prepared, the trainers accompany the young people on their way to critical thinking and self-confident living. Impulses are set and skills are imparted that the young people can use in their everyday lives. The special impact of the project and positive feedback from the young people and teachers aroused the interest of the other classes and so the Way of X team visits us again. It will not be the last time, as the project contributes sustainably and clearly to tolerant and respectful interaction at the school.
Thank you very much for a very beneficial workshop. The mediators found good access to the young people and built up a relationship in a very short time, creating an open atmosphere. The fact-checking in real time was great, created trust and reflection and strengthened the constructive discussion.
By "changing places", those who are reticent are also activated, even if only non-verbally.
Dear WAY OF X team,
Thank you for your commitment at IGS Badenstedt! The students' enthusiasm for your two-day workshop has not waned even a week later. The reason for this is, on the one hand, the strong inclusion of the lifeworld of young people, taking into account heterogeneous groups and thus a diverse view of religion, culture, etc. In addition, biographical connections were made to the topic, from which the pupils were able to benefit. It was also beneficial that WAY OF X was always solution-orientated during the planning process and responded flexibly to individual requests.
I would therefore definitely recommend the carrier!
The workshop with Alexander and co came at the right time - in a class that was considered one of the most difficult in the school. The trainers worked on the complex topic of self-determination in a trusting and relaxed manner and managed to connect directly with the group. The pupils felt that their needs and problems were taken seriously and recognised - a rarity in everyday school life. The next day, the class teacher said that the atmosphere in the class was better than it had been for a long time. And given the intensity of the discussions and role plays, I'm sure the impulses will have a lasting effect ... I'd love to do it again!
I hired "Way of X" for an event with two 9th graders and I am absolutely thrilled! The educational methods were great and the team responded very sensitively to the pupils. I was particularly impressed by how professional and uncomplicated the organisation and communication was. The team conveyed important topics in a playful yet profound way. An all-round positive experience that I can highly recommend!
